How To Save Mobile Data Usage in Telegram (Android & iOS)

Telegram is a popular instant messaging app and popular all over the world. The messaging app includes more features than WhatsApp like bots, channels, groups with a huge number of users, secret chats, voice and video calls and many more. The app is also available on almost all the platforms including Android, iOS, Windows, Windows Phone, macOS, Linux 32 and 64 bit, Telegram Web, Chrome App.

There is a huge number of useful channels and groups in Telegram and we can easily subscribe to them. But, while subscribing to more channels and groups, the content will also be shared often and the content may include photos, videos, gifs and more. During these scenarios, the data usage in our mobile will be utilized a lot. By default, the Telegram app has the Automatic Media Download option. But, to reduce mobile data usage, the app has settings to disable for specific media types or as a whole.

How To Save Mobile Data Usage in Telegram App – Android:

Step 1: Open Telegram App, then go to the Settings page and then to Data and Storage.

Step 2: Now under Automatic Media Download you have 3 options as below

  • In Private Chats
  • In Groups
  • In Channels

Tap on each item and uncheck the type of files you don’t want to auto download. To save more data, I would recommend you to uncheck all file formats, so that you can download the file which is required, manually from the chats/channels/groups.

Step 3: You can also restrict mobile data for all file types which are not to be downloaded if it is more than a certain size and also while roaming.

To do so navigate to Advanced option under the Automatic Media download, then the below 3 options will appear

  • Restrict on Roaming

Tap on each option and choose the maximum size for each file formats and save.
