Wikipedia Was Launched On January 15, 2001

19 years ago today the online encyclopedia – Wikipedia was launched.

Wikipedia is a popular online encyclopedia which is available in multiple languages. The website was launched by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger on January 15, 2001. As of now, the content is available in 309 languages.

The domain names wikipedia.com and wikipedia.org were registered on January 12 and 13, 2001 respectively. Wikipedia website was launched on January 15, 2001.

There is also dedicated page Wikipedia in the Wikipedia website, which was created in 6th November 2001.
